AZAMOUR

2009 will be an important year for AZAMOUR as his first juveniles are eagerly awaited on the racetrack. The progeny of HH Aga Khan’s champion middle distance performer have already been sought after at public sales, with his first yearlings meeting with success in the ring last season at prices reaching 550,000€.

AZAMOUR’s popularity continued with his first representatives at auction this year, with three of his initial juveniles selling at Saint Cloud’s breeze up last weekend. These included a son of El Rabab which attracted a bid of 160,000€, among the highest of a buoyant session. Presented by Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stables, this Lot 78 was snapped up by Michel Zérolo of Oceanic Bloodstock, acting on behalf of in-form owner Martin Schwartz and Marc de Chambure.

AZAMOUR is the sire everyone’s talking about at the moment, and the reactions are very positive,” commented the agent. “We really liked this colt and for me his canter was the best of the morning. He might not be quite ready to run immediately but I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t race as a two-year-old.” The elegant bay is a grandson of American champion juvenile Brave Raj and is a half-brother to six winners including Canadian Group performer Muntej. He will be trained in Pau by Jean-Claude Rouget.
