Breeders enthusiastic over AK broodmares

Tuesday 27 November 2007

An outstanding consignment of 30 well-bred fillies and broodmares from the Aga Khan Studs proved to be popular at Goffs sale of Broodmares and Fillies in late November.

All but three of the mares were bought for a total of almost 1.5 million Euros and an average of €55,000.

Top-priced Saga Célèbre, a Peintre Célèbre daughter of the full-sister to Arc winner Sagamix and half-sister to Gr.1 Criterium de Saint Cloud winner and Arc third Sagacity, was purchased for €170,000 by Herbage Stud. The three-year-old has won one race in Ireland this year.

Kalimanta, the ten-year-old half-sister to Champion Stakes and Breeders Cup Turf winner Kalanisi and Scottish Derby (Gr.2) winner and St James’s Palace Stakes runner-up Kalaman, was knocked down for €150,000 to Richard Frisby Bloodstock. The daughter of Lake Coniston has produced one winner and is in foal to dual Derby and Arc winner Sinndar.

Also sold for €150,000 was Ayla. The grey daughter of Daylami is closely related to Irish Derby and King George winner Alamshar and she was acquired by Barry Walters. Ayla is the full sister to Aliysa who has produced two winners to date. Ayla herself won and was placed last season and she is certified in foal to Xaar.

CLASSIC PEDIGREES AT DEAUVILLE

More blue-blooded Aga Khan fillies and broodmares will go under the hammer at Deauville’s forthcoming Breeding Stock Sale. The 41-strong draft includes the half-sisters to the likes of Khalkevi, Daliapour, Sakhee, Val Royal, Dalakhani and Daylami and the full sister to Criterium International winner Carlotamix. Maternal families of Shergar, High Chaparral and Linamix are also featured, as are the daughters of Classic winners Zalaiyka and Daryaba and the dams of Poule d’Essai des Poulains heroes Vahorimix and Clodovil.
