Khalkevi race career over

Monday 5 August 2002

Grand Prix de Paris winner, Khalkevi is still recovering from a fractured right-hind pastern sustained during a recent racecourse gallop.

However it has already been confirmed that the colt’s race career is over.

The Group 1 winning son of Kahyasi was preparing for a tilt at the Juddmonte International Stakes at York when the injury occurred on Tuesday 30th July at Maisons-Laffitte racecourse. Khalkevi was pulled up by his regular jockey, Christophe Soumillon, after the colt lost his action upon entering the final turn of the racecourse gallop.

Subsequent X-rays determined a fracture to the right-hind pastern, which necessitated an operation to stabilise the limb. The colt faces a few months of recuperation before a long-term decision can be made about his future career.
