Sister to 2022 Classic prospect among featured fillies.

An extensive draft of 40 homebreds will feature at the forthcoming Arqana Breeding Stock Sale from 4th to 7th December, giving buyers ample chance to build on the success of previous mares sold by the Aga Khan Studs. Progeny from such mares to have won on the world stage in 2021 include Grade 1 winner Shantisara, Group 2-winning juveniles Royal Patronage and Four Moves Ahead, dual Group 1 placed Gold Trip, Grade 1 runner-up Amschel and Grade 1 placed novice chaser Zarkareva.

Looking forward to 2022 one page to keep an eye on is that of VARDANA, lot 119. The winning three-year-old by Awtaad is half-sister to the exciting Vadeni, a Listed winning and Group-placed juvenile who goes into next season as one of the Aga Khan Studs’ leading Classic hopes.

This sale also provides an opportunity to buy into the famous family of Zarkava, who can now add dam of the leading French first crop sire, Zarak, to her long list of achievements. The draft includes two Siyouni fillies closely related to the 2008 Arc winner – her granddaughter ZEROUA, lot 146, who is a half-sister to the consistent Stakes horse Zeyrek, and lot 153, ZELENIYA, who is out of a half-sister to Zarkava and is a recent winner.

A trio of mares will be offered in foal to first season sire Persian King, commencing with lot 70, ROSANARA, a Group 1 winning two-year-old when landing the Prix Marcel Boussac, and Classic-placed at three when second in the Prix de Diane. The grey mare, who is a half-sister to two Stakes horses and out of dual Listed winner Rosawa (a full sister to Rajsaman), is the dam of three winners to date.

Lot 88 is SHANNDIYRA, a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix de l’Opéra winner Shalanaya (herself dam of five winners including dual Stakes-placed Shalamba) and Gr.2 Prix Chaudenay winner Shankardeh. SHANNDIYRA is already the dam of a Stakes winner and multiple Group performer in Shahnaza, and had a colt by the leading sire in France, Siyouni, in 2021. As a daughter of King’s Best, her 2022 foal will be bred on similar lines to Gr.2 winner Headman.

VISORIYNA, a Stakes winning daughter of leading broodmare sire Dansili, completes the trio as lot 127. The first three foals out of this 10-year-old mare, who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Vazirabad, have all won, and her two-year-old Kingman filly placed on debut in September.

Two other daughters of Dansili feature in the draft. Lot 507, three-year-old CALDIRANA, is the first foal out of multiple Group winner and Group 1-placed Candarliya, who has offspring by Siyouni, Le Havre and Frankel to come; and lot 522, DAYITA, a winning half-sister to champions Daylami and Dalakhani who is the dam of four winners from four runners to date.

Another mare with a pedigree full of top flight winners is lot 409, SORIYA, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Slickly, Group 2 winner No Slip and Listed winner Sichilla, who has achieved notoriety as the dam of champion sire Siyouni, as well as Grade 1 winner Siyouma, Listed winner Siyenica (herself dam of Gr.1 Prix Saint Alary winner Siyarafina) and Stakes winner Sayana.

Other current pedigrees of note include those of lot 149, EBIYANZA, a three-year-old half-sister to multiple Group winner Ebaiyra, Stakes winner Edisa and impressive recent two-year-old debut winner Ebba. Their Group 2 winning dam Ebiyza had a Sea The Stars colt foal this season and is in foal to Kingman. Lot 314, MANATIYA, meanwhile is a Redoute’s Choice half-sister to Group winning two- and three-year-old Makaloun and is offered in foal to Dream Ahead for her third cover.

Lot 833 DARENJANA is a Sea The Stars half-sister to champion Darjina, as well as three further fillies who have gone on to produce Stakes horses themselves. Also on the page is Darkova, who was sold at the Arqana December Sale in 2011 and went on to become the dam of champion Almanzor and two further Stakes performers. She is offered in foal to leading first season sire Zarak.
