Gilltown sire is second in Europe on black type winners.

SEA THE STARS signed a transatlantic Stakes treble over recent days, with Listed and Group successes for full brothers Baaeed and HUKUM in the UK and Listed victory for CALL ME LOVE at Belmont Park.

Exciting three-year-old Baaeed set the ball rolling during the Newmarket July Festival on Thursday. The progressive colt remained unbeaten in three outings with an impressive four-length win in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes. After making his debut in June, the son of SEA THE STARS has won his three races by a total of 13 lengths and his rise up the ranks looks certain to continue for trainer William Haggas. Shadwell’s racing manager Angus Gold was delighted with the performance, “He has a lovely mind and is a really exciting horse. He’s a brother to HUKUM and it’s nice to see he has the class for the good races at a mile. His options include the Celebration Mile or even the Jacques le Marois and we’ll be looking towards Champions Day with the Queen Elizabeth II or the Champion Stakes if we decide to go further.”

Two days later at York, Baaeed’s full brother HUKUM followed up the family success with a strong display to secure the Group 3 Silver Cup Stakes over a mile and three-quarters. This was the third Stakes victory for the four-year-old Shadwell colt trained by Owen Burrows. There are plenty of options now for the consistent HUKUM who is a Listed winner over a mile and a half and third recently in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes.

Shadwell homebreds Baaeed and HUKUM are out of Listed winner Aghareed (Kingmambo), herself daughter of Breeders’ Cup winner Lahudood.

In the USA, SEA THE STARS’ daughter CALL ME LOVE lifted the final Stakes contest of the Belmont Park meet, the Listed River Memories Stakes over a mile and a half. CALL ME LOVE began her career in Italy where she won two Group contests including the Gr.2 Premio Lydia Tesio at three years old and has been a consistent performer since joining Christophe Clément in America last season, placing in several Group events.

Gilltown Stud stallion SEA THE STARS is currently ranked second in Europe on the number of Stakes winners in 2021, with 12 individual black-type scorers, and is the joint leading sire on ratio of winners to runners with an impressive figure of 42%. He will be represented by twelve yearlings at Arqana’s premier sale from 14th to 16th August at Deauville.
