Updates and top families for Arqana Sale

Thursday 17 June 2021

Aga Khan Studs draft offers racing and breeding promise.

The Aga Khan Studs’ consignment for the forthcoming Arqana Summer Sale on 1st July is composed of 11 three-year-olds with rich potential for a future in the paddocks, on the flat or over jumps. Two entries have opened their account since the publication of the catalogue, and as ever, all the pedigrees are blue-blooded.

The quintet of fillies out of training will carry great appeal as breeding prospects as they represent some of the most successful Aga Khan Studs maternal lines. Lot 262 Ediyssa, by Dutch Art, hails from the family of Group 1 winning siblings Enzeli, Estimate, Ebadiyla and Edabiya. Lot 293 Mandaza is a Zoffany granddaughter of triple Group 1 victrix Mandesha dam of Listed scorer and Group 1 placed Mandour, and Sania (Dark Angel, lot 329) is out of dual winner Saliyna (Linamix), the full sister to top-class racehorse and sire Slickly, and half-sister to the dam of leading European stallion Siyouni. From the family of Shergar, lot 339 Shaiydana (Charm Spirit) is the half-sister to Listed victrix and Group placed Shahnaza, out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Shalanaya, and lot 389 Darraja (Wootton Bassett) counts three-time Group 1 winners Darjina and Almanzor among her relatives.

The consignment features four winners; lot 520 VISSANI is a half-brother to champion stayer Vazirabad, from the first crop of Haras de Bonneval sire Dariyan. The grey son of Gr 3 victrix Visorama opened his account in May on his first attempt over a mile and a half. Lot 519 VALDARANN has proved most consistent, finishing in the money on all six outings including a success over seven furlongs in April and four second places. By Siyouni, VALDARANN is out of a half-sister to Prix de Diane heroine Valyra. CALIYOUN (Maxios, lot 474) recently lost his maiden tag on his second outing with a win over a mile and a half at Lyon Parilly. His dam, a half-sister to Poule d’Essai des Poulains scorer Clodovil, now counts six winners from six runners. Like CALIYOUN, lot 472 ELBASANI has also opened his account since the publication of the Arqana catalogue. By English Channel and out of a half-sister to Classic victrix Ervedya, the colt scored over a mile and three-quarters on 13th June.

Other noteworthy individuals include lot 440 MIYAZ, placed this spring at Sain- Cloud and Compiègne. This colt by Siyouni is out of Listed winner Mila, from the family of triple Australian Group 1 scorer Manighar.
