Sister of Zarkava heads Arqana draft

Tuesday 24 November 2020

Daughters of Mandesha and Rosanara among Aga Khan consignment.

2020 has once again seen Aga Khan Studs graduates and maternal lines shine at the highest level, thanks to the exploits of SONAIYLA, PASSION, Gold Trip and Marie’s Diamond. From the family of Sinndar, SONAIYLA has won a Listed contest and is Group 1 placed since changing hands last autumn, while PASSION (ex Dialafara), Gold Trip (ex Sarvana) and Marie’s Diamond (ex Sindiyma) are all out of Aga Khan mares and have each been placed this season in Group 1 contests.

The 34-strong 2020 draft of Aga Khan bred fillies and broodmares for the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale from 5th - 8th December features top-class pedigrees and performers, and is headed by a half-sister to the invincible ZARKAVA.

Lot 156 Zarza is a daughter of Charm Spirit and Zarkasha (Kahyasi), dam of Arc heroine ZARKAVA and also Group 3 winner Zarshana. Champion at two and three years old ZARKAVA has since proved her worth in the paddocks, as dam of three Stakes winners including promising young sire Zarak.

A daughter of three-time Group 1 winner MANDESHA is an appealing prospect and this lot 115, Mandiana, is a Siyouni half-sister to Group 1 placed Mandour.

Another interesting three-year-old profile is that of lot 88 Manika, by Maxios and out of dual winner Makana (Dalakhani). The filly is a half-sister to three winners including the exciting juvenile MAKALOUN, a Listed and Group 3 winner and third in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud this season.

Winning mare Kerka (Dansili, lot 78) is presented in foal for the first time to successful young sire Wootton Bassett. The four-year-old hails from a family rich in black-type as her dam Kerasona (Oasis Dream) is a Listed winner and half-sister to a Group scorer and two Stakes performers.

Listed winner and prolific Stakes performer Shamanova (Danehill Dancer, lot 400) represents an attraction in the sale as she boasts a page filled with black-type. The mare is out of Irish Oaks second Shamadara (Kahyasi), who has produced several Group performers, notably Group 1 winner Shamdala, and Shamdara, dam of dual American Group 1 winner Shamdinan. From the family of Shergar, Shamanova is offered in foal to Awtaad.

Other talented performers among the draft feature Group 3 scorer and Group 1 runner-up SARKIYLA (Oasis Dream, lot 149), presented in foal to Le Havre and dual Group 2 scorer Ashalanda (Linamix, lot 13), dam of two Stakes performers to date and expecting a foal by Harzand.

Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner ROSANARA (Sinndar) is represented by lot 597, dual winner Rosvana (Dansili) who has been covered by Dariyan who has enjoyed success with his first juveniles this year.
