Thursday 9 May 2019

Classic sires feature strongly at Arqana.

Aga Khan Studs sires Sea The Stars and Siyouni, who have both enjoyed excellent results recently on the track and in the sales ring, are strongly represented at this spring breeze-up sale. The Arqana catalogue for the Deauville sale is to be held on Friday 10th May (canters) and Saturday 11th May, and features a dozen progeny of the Gilltown and Bonneval sires.

Sire of ten individual Group 1 winners including Stradivarius and the outstanding Sea Of Class in 2018, Sea The Stars has made a great start to this year with his first Australian victory at the highest level, thanks to Shraaoh in the Sydney Cup, and also an extremely promising return by Crystal Ocean to lift the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes.

The trio of Sea The Stars juveniles is headed by lot 3, a full sister to Gr. 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes scorer Star Storm, and granddaughter to champion filly Sayyedati, offered by Mocklershill. The consigner also presents lot 152, a representative of the same maternal line. Out of a three-time winner by King’s Best, the colt is a half-brother to two Stakes winners.

Sire of five-time Group 1 heroine Laurens in 2018, Siyouni has two exciting Classic prospects for 2019 in recent impressive Listed winners Maqsad and Sottsass. Nine progeny of the leading French sire are set to pass through the Deauville ring.

Hailing from the high-class Niarchos family of Spinning World and offered by Longways Stables, lot 24 is out of winning Pleasantly Perfect dam Tehamana who has already produced Listed winner Art Of Raw. The Haras du Saubouas presents four Siyouni youngsters. Lot 65 is a half-brother to Gr.2 Prix Greffulhe scorer Ocovango, and he is a grandson of Group 1 winner and Classic placed Crystal Music. Lot 64 is a half-sister to two winners, out of five-time scorer and Listed placed Core Element and a granddaughter of Millstream who won three Group titles. From Powerstown Stud, lot 137 is a half-brother to prolific Listed performer Fourioso, from the family of champion miler Bahri, while lot 145, consigned by Mocklershill, boasts a host of stallions on her page. The filly is out of a Dansili half-sister to young sire Doha Dream, who in turn is out of a half-sister to talented stayers and stallions Martaline, Coastal Path and Reefscape.
