Pamplemousse latest Stakes winner for Classic sire

Progressive filly PAMPLEMOUSSE became SIYOUNI’s 12th individual Stakes winner on Sunday, and in doing so made a timely reminder of the stallion’s classy 11-strong entry in Friday’s Arqana Breeze-Up Sale.

The André Fabre-trained PAMPLEMOUSSE made all to score in the LR Prix du Pont-Neuf at Chantilly, on just her third public appearance after making a winning debut in early April and taking fourth place in the Gr. 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes later in the same month. The exciting filly holds an entry in the Gr. 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. On the same Chantilly card, another daughter of SIYOUNI, Blessed Silence, opened her Stakes account with a close second place in the LR Prix Maurice Zilber.

Owned by Lady Bamford, PAMPLEMOUSSE is by SIYOUNI and out of the unraced mare Acatama (Efisio), half-sister to American Gr. 1 winner Amorama and dam of Gr. 1 victrix Odeliz. The filly has passed through the Arqana ring twice, selling for €250,000 as an August yearling in 2015, then purchased for €400,000 by Charlie Gordon-Watson as a juvenile at the 2016 Breeze-Up Sale.

Another noteworthy Arqana Breeze-Up graduate by the Haras de Bonneval stallion is LE BRIVIDO, currently unbeaten for André Fabre and Prince Faisal. The €105,000 purchase is likely to line up this weekend in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and he is also entered in the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey-Club.

SIYOUNI, the Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère-winning son of Pivotal, will be strongly represented by four fillies and seven colts at Arqana’s Breeze-Up Sale at Deauville on Friday.

One attraction will be lot 26, a half-brother to Gr. 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris scorer Ming Dynasty and to the dam of the late Melbourne Cup runner-up Heartbreak City. His second dam Moonlight Dance won the Prix Saint-Alary Gr.1 and his third dam Madelia lifted the same Group 1 contest, as well as the Prix de Diane Gr.1.

Lot 44 is a grandson of Gr. 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest heroine Porlezza, dam of Gr. 3 winner and Gr. 1 Prix Morny third Pontenuovo. His dam, by talented broodmare sire Sinndar, was the winner of one race at Saint-Cloud. Lot 68, out of three-time winner Storma (Starborough), is a half-brother to three winners including Stakes winner and Gr. 1 third Coup de Theatre, while lot 80 Zanouyi hails from the prestigious Aga Khan Studs maternal line of Poule d’Essai des Pouliches victrix Zalaiyka. Lot 127 Front Page is an appealing colt whose Encosta de Lago dam is a half-sister to Ferneley, a Group winner in Ireland and the USA, closely related to Group 1 fillies High Heeled and Just the Judge.

Among the fillies, lot 50 should attract interest as she is out of Listed-placed Reech Band (Choisir), from the family of American Gr. 1 winners Fran’s Valentine and With Anticipation.
