A seventh success for Vazirabad

Prix Vicomtesse Vigier a fifth Group victory.

Top class stayer VAZIRABAD extended his unbeaten run on Sunday at Saint-Cloud with a seventh consecutive win in the Gr. 2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier. Making his first public outing since victory in the Gr. 2 Dubai Gold Cup, the son of Manduro carried the top weight in the one mile seven and a half furlong Vicomtesse Vigier. After being held up in the four-runner field, the gelding accelerated a furlong from home and ran on to score by three-quarters of a length, with a little left in hand.

VAZIRABAD is now undefeated since July of last year, and the winner of the Gr. 1 Prix Royal-Oak is now set for a new challenge as he is to be dropped in trip to tackle the Gr. 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud over a mile and a half on 3 July.

Trained by Alain de Royer Dupré, he is a son of Gr. 3 Prix de Flore winner and Gr. 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud placed Visorama (Linamix), dam of Listed victrix Visoriyna.

On the same Saint-Cloud card, Dalakhani’s dual Group winner CANDARLIYA ran well over a distance shorter than her ideal trip, taking third place in the Gr. 3 Prix Corrida. Winner of the Gr. 2 Prix de Royallieu, Gr. 3 Prix Minerve and Listed Prix de Thiberville at age three in 2015, the filly is most consistent. CANDARLIYA’s dam Candara (Barathea) has also produced the talented Canessar (Kendargent), who is unbeaten in two races this season at three years old and will be aimed at Gr.3 Prix du Lys.

In Ireland, HAZMIYRA made a very pleasing impression when scoring on her debut at Naas. By Pivotal, the filly is the first offspring of Gr. 3 runner-up Haziyna (Halling). Sent off favourite for her maiden, Dermot Weld’s charge was slowly away in the seven furlong contest but quickly made progress and stayed on well to open her account in very promising style.
