Arab Dawn lifts Parramatta Cup in Australia

Monday 22 February 2016

A 45th Stakes win for his sire Dalakhani.

Aga Khan Studs sire DALAKHANI took his global Stakes tally to 45 at the weekend as his son ARAB DAWN won the Listed Parramatta Cup at Rosehill. The five-year-old gelding was having just his second run in Australia for new owners Godolphin and under a patient ride from Christian Reith he ran out the easy winner of the 1900m contest, from stablemate Allergic.

Trainer John O’Shea was delighted with the performance and told local media, “He hasn’t been here a long time but he’s given us every indication he’s got a nice future.

ARAB DAWN was winning his first Stakes contest, but he had already earned black-type in England in 2015 when taking third place in the Gr. 3 September Stakes. The elegant grey also shone at Royal Ascot, where he lifted the valuable Duke of Edinburgh Stakes for former trainer Hughie Morrison.

ARAB DAWN’s victory in the Parramatta Cup was a timely one for his sire DALAKHANI, who has shuttled to Cornerstone Stud for the past three Southern Hemisphere seasons and who is now represented by his first yearlings born in Australia.

Indeed, DALAKHANI’s first Australian-bred yearling to go under the hammer at public auction raised an impressive Aus$ 370,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale in January. This colt is set to join Chris Waller in Australia, who trained DALAKHANI’s son Reliable Man to win the Gr. 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 2013. DALAKHANI will be represented by eight yearlings at the upcoming Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner DALAKHANI is currently standing at the Haras de Bonneval in Normandy for a fee of €15,000.
