Well-bred Variable takes Finale Stakes.

Gilltown Stud sire SEA THE STARS recorded the 22nd Pattern winner of his stallion career, and the twelfth of the season, on Saturday as his lightly-raced daughter VARIABLE cruised to success in the Listed Finale Stakes at the Curragh.

This blue-blooded Juddmonte Farms homebred is the fruit of a cross between SEA THE STARS and Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac victrix Proportional (Beat Hollow). Trained by Dermot Weld, the three-year-old won her maiden back in May before suffering a setback on firm ground in the Listed Oaks Trial at Naas in June.

After a summer break, the filly returned to her best with a smooth success in the mile and a half Finale Stakes against colts and older horses. VARIABLE finished three lengths ahead of another three-year-old filly, the improving Aga Khan Studs Stakes performer Ebayya (Azamour).

VARIABLE is likely to remain in training next season at four.

Six time Group 1 winner and Arc winner SEA THE STARS boasts excellent statistics of 22 lifetime Stakes winners and 39 black-type performers, with a ratio of 12.4% Stakes winners to runners lifetime. 2015 figures for the son of Cape Cross and Urban Sea are equally impressive, with 12 Stakes winners and 15 Stakes placed horses, for an average of 9.7% Stakes winners to runners and an enviable 21.8% Stakes performer to runners.
