Valixir triumphant in the Queen Anne

Thursday 16 June 2005

The Aga Khan owned Valixir, a late supplement to the Queen Anne Stakes, put in a fine performance at York yesterday

to beat the favourite Rakti by one and a half lengths. Trainer Andre Fabre's relationship with Valixir's owner is a relatively new one and in the aftermath of his Group 1 victory, His Highness rated him "an outstanding trainer". Jockey Christophe Soumillon thus celebrated his first ever win at the Royal meeting, and while the Aga Khan is no stranger to the Winners' Enclosure at Royal Ascot, this was indeed a joyous moment following Vadawina's injury at Chantilly in the Prix de Diane on Sunday.
