Arqana’s Arc sale, which in recent years has seen Lidari, Rajsaman and Zaidpour change hands before going on to record top class performances for new connections, has another interesting Aga Khan Studs entry this year in CANNDAL.
Offered as lot 8, three-year-old CANNDAL is a talented performer. He opened his account in fine style in the Prix de Champerret at Longchamp in April this year, before finishing third in the Gr. 2 Prix Hocquart, followed by a close second in the Listed Prix Ridgway at Compiègne. Mikel Delzangles’ charge then demonstrated his adaptability when travelling to the U.S.A to take second place in the Gr.1 Belmont Derby.
By Medicean, CANNDAL represents an excellent family hailing from the Jean-Luc Lagardère breeding operation. The colt is out of Listed placed Clodovina (Rock of Gibraltar), a three-quarter sister to French 2000 Guineas winner and sire Clodovil (Danehill), and half-sister to Group 3 scorer and Arlington Million Gr.1 third Colombian (Azamour). His granddam Clodora, by Linamix, lifted the Prix de l’Opéra.
