Sea The Stars celebrates 20th Stakes winner

Thursday 10 September 2015

2-y-o Cloth Of Stars makes an impact in Gr.3 Prix des Chênes.

Cloth of Stars became the 20th individual Stakes winner of his sire SEA THE STARS on Wednesday when recording a stylish victory in the Gr. 3 Prix des Chênes at Longchamp. On just his second public outing, the Godolphin colour-bearer belied his inexperience to produce an impressive turn of foot and run out the decisive winner of this juvenile contest.

The André Fabre-trained colt holds plenty of promise for the future and if he races again this season, he could return to Longchamp for the Gr. 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère on Arc day, 4th October.

A 400,000 Guineas yearling, Cloth of Stars is out of Strawberry Fledge (Kingmambo), a full sister to Oaks winner Light Shift. The SEA THE STARS-Kingmambo cross is quickly making its mark, having already seen success through Stakes winner Sivolière and the promising Migwar, runner-up recently in the Listed Grand Prix de Clairefontaine.

Gilltown Stud stallion SEA THE STARS is now ranked third in the European sires table, with a ratio of 8.4% Stakes winners to runners.

Earlier in the week, SEA THE STARS’ daughter Almela, a stunning 19-length winner on her August debut, finished a head second in the LR Oyster Stakes at Galway. This meeting at Galway proved to be most successful for the Aga Khan Studs, whose silks were carried to a hat-trick thanks to maiden winners Ebediyin (Raven’s Pass), Simannka (Mastercraftsman), and Alveena (Medicean) and the handicap was won by Aga Khan Studs bred and sold Shamar (Dr Fong).

This treble marked the 100th win of the season for the in-form Aga Khan stables in Ireland and France.
