Grey Swallow 8 length winner of Group III

Monday 27 October 2003

Grey Swallow stormed to an eight length victory in the Group III Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown yesterday, confirming the son of Daylami’s status as a leading Classic prospect for 2004.

A ten length winner of his only previous start three months ago, Grey Swallow raced in third position before powering to the front over a furlong out and quickening eight lengths clear of the field in this seven furlong Group III event.

His impressive performance drew the following comments from his trainer Dermot Weld: “He did it very impressively. He was cruising throughout…. For different reasons he didn’t run in the Group I on Arc day, and the ground at both Newmarket and Doncaster was too quick. As it turned out he may have won the Dewhurst…”

Grey Swallow’s victory added to a particularly promising season for first crop sire Daylami, following the performances of Stakes winner Bay Tree and Group II placed and dual winner Birthday Suit. Daylami has a total of 33% winner to runners to date.
