Tashkandi an easy stakes winner

Friday 23 May 2003

Tashkandi earned himself a possible tilt at the Group I Prix Jean Prat with an emphatic victory in the Listed Prix de Pontarmé over a mile at Chantilly today.

The Polish Precedent colt made the running in a slowly run race and Soumillon still hadn’t moved on the horse halfway up the straight. When asked to quicken, Tashkandi quickened impressively, eventually passing the post three lengths ahead of his nearest rival. This exciting display prompted Tashkandi’s jockey to comment:

“He could well run in the Prix Jean Prat in nine days’ time. It’s a possibility we had discussed after his last win, and today’s performance confirms he is a very good horse.”

Tashkandi is the first foal out of the winning and Group placed mare Tashiriya, by Kenmare and the Group III Princess Royal Stakes winner Tashtiya, a rare daughter of the champion racehorse, Shergar. Tashkandi has a Desert Prince two year old half brother as well as a Darshaan yearling half brother.
