Kalabar looks Classic material

Saturday 19 April 2003

Kalabar, a classy son of Kahyasi owned and bred by Juddmonte Farms, fulfilled some of the promise he has shown in three unlucky defeats to date, with an impressive first win.

A runner up first time out at Saint-Cloud to the highly rated Songlark, Kalabar was subsequently placed twice in good company, having had no kind of a run.

Last Friday in a competitive conditions’ event over ten furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte, the son of Kahyasi took no chances as he raced four horses wide round the bend and into the straight. Lengthening impressively, he hit the front two furlongs out and was eased up to win by two lengths from the nearest of his fourteen rivals.

Standing at the Aga Khan Studs’ Haras de Bonneval in France, Kahyasi is the sire of 25 individual Stakes winners, and 5 individual Group I winners, including last year’s ill fated Grand Prix de Paris winner Khalkevi.

Kalabar is due to run in the Group III Prix La Force, a recognised French Derby trial, at Saint-Cloud on May 5th.
