CHARM SPIRIT’s first yearlings for public sale in Australia met with success at the recent Magic Millions Sale, with four youngsters selling for a total of Aus$865,000. Based at the Aga Khan Studs’ Haras de Bonneval for the 2018 breeding season, CHARM SPIRIT has shuttled to the Southern Hemisphere and these yearlings were born from the son of Invincible Spirit’s first season at Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand.
All four yearlings presented at the prestigious Gold Coast Sale changed hands, appealing to some of Australasia’s leading professionals. The top-price of Aus$300,000 was raised by a beautifully-bred filly (lot 539), the first daughter of the full sister to Group 1 winner Merchant Navy and Group 1 runner up Jolie Bay. She was snapped up by trainer Ciaron Maher.
Guy Mulcaster of Mulcaster Bloodstock was the successful bidder at Aus$220,000 for the top-priced colt, lot 743, a half-brother to five winners including Group 1 scorer I Do and Listed victrix and Group-placed Iggi Pop.
Top trainer Chris Waller had the final word at Aus$205,000 for lot 571, a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed Soubrettes, out of a half-sister to champion three-year-old filly sprinter Star Satire.
Lot 568, a colt whose dam Bryony (Fastnet Rock) is the half sister to Group 1 winner Triple Honour and full-sister to Group 1 winner Heroic Valour, was knocked down to Australian trainer Phillip Stokes, for a bid of Aus$140,000.
CHARM SPIRIT, whose first juveniles are eagerly awaited on the track this season, will be visible at the Haras de Bonneval during the Open Day on Saturday January 20th.
The winner of three Group 1 contests over a mile is available at a fee of €20,000.
